Great alternative for XBOX 360 wireless April 12, 2008 G. Bovara (Chandler, AZ USA) 25 out of 25 found this review helpful
I was able to set this adapter up easily and quickly with no issues whatsoever. It works perfectly with my XBOX 360 and is much much faster than the XBOX brand wireless G adapter. I am using WPA2 (TKIP and AES) mode on my router and everything is running smoothly with no connection issues. A great product.
Connecting to Verizon Wireless Router October 17, 2008 ronajer (NJ - USA) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I purchased this adapter to serve as network bridge from Verizon wireless router to Sony BDP-S550 blu-ray player (for BD Live and firmware update). The included cd setup software didn't work so I called their Technical Support. I used my Vista desktop with built in wireless card in setting up this adapter.
I was instructed from the very beginning to disable the firewall. I have Norton Anti-virus software and disabling any of its features is not as easy as before so we just proceed with the manual configuration without disabling the firewall. At first, we couldn't even get to connect/login to the adapter using manual configuration. After we had checked the pc's setting and getting nowhere, I opened up the Norton interface and finally found where I could disable the firewall. After that, we were able to setup the adapter.
When I connected the adapter to the bluray player, I still could not get into the network though the adapter had all the green lights on indicating it's working. I tried all the network options from blu ray player setup but still have the same error. I pulled out the blu ray and adapter's power for a minute - same error. I called up Sony Technical Support but he didn't even know what a network bridge/adapter is. I pulled the power out from Verizon wireless router for a minute and to my surprise, the blu ray was able to connect to the network.
The unit is working perfectly. Tried the BDLive in Iron Man and it connected to the internet without a problem and downloaded the data in a few seconds.
Easy to set up, works like a charm January 18, 2008 D. Krepak 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I had used Netgear Powerline in the past to connect my HD-XA2 to the internet but after about 9 months it just stopped working. Decided to go wireless. Initially bought the SMCWEBT-G EZ Connect g Wireless Ethernet Bridge from Amazon. I had contemplated the Linksys WGA54G Wireless-G Gaming Adapter but due to customer reviews went with the SMC instead. It failed miserably. Setup seemed simple enough but even calling technical support at SMC failed to enable the unit to connect to my network. They said the unit may be defective so I returned it. After doing some more research decided to go with this unit after talking to someone at Linksys through online chat. This unit apparently allows faster speed than the older version. Received it today, setup in 5 minutes and I'm connected without issue. I highly recommend this unit. It costs more than other, but it works great.
Simple setup -- works great February 20, 2008 WGA (Atlanta, GA) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I bought the WGA600N to connect my DirecTV HDR DVR to my wireless network. The setup was very easy and straightforward -- it took me 10 minutes or less. I used a laptop to set it up, and the Quick Install guide walked me through the entire process. The WPA/WPA2 security works flawlessly with my Airport Extreme wireless N network. I had absolutely no issues.
Fantastic product, works out of the box, set up in 5 minutes using WPA manual config March 26, 2008 Brent Hatley (BTLS) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I was afraid that the Lynksys would not be compatible with my netgear wireless router. After 5 easy minutes of set up on the disaster that is Windows Vista, it works perfectly.
Pros
- easy to use manual configuration. simply enter WPA key and you are set to go
- very fast and simple set up
- compatible with netgear rangemax
- compatible with playstation 2
- no dropped connections, good range
- small footprint, simply design blends well with entertainment centers
- ac adapter is nice and small works great on surge protectors
cons
- only 1 color to chose
- green lights are very bright
- possible old firmware models still being sold?
- misleading instructions for WPA using "push button" features that do not exist on a lot of routers, you must "skip" a step to do manual config. That is inaccurate directions since you are not "skipping" anything, you are simply doing manual config instead of linksys "push button"
Even better I set this up on my PC, unplugged it, brought it downstairs and there was no reboot of the PC required, no reboot of the router required, no reboot of cable modem required.
I really don't understand what people are complaining about, this was easier to set up than a wireless router, easier than the netgear wall plugs
I have been using this to dual box EQOA running PS2 via wireless N, and PS3 on the built in wireless. Very few problems other than the PS3 randomly crashing, which is likely related to the PS3's latest firmware and not this wireless N unit.
This is the first "wireless bridge" I have used that did not require endless reboots of all equipment involved.
My only regret is not buying this unit sooner and avoiding the other hyped up units like the netgear wall plugs, which IMO were terrible.
